The Actor Marcus Rutherford, who plays Perrin Aybara in Prime Video’s fantasy series “The Wheel of Time,” describes it as a privilege to develop a character’s journey over multiple seasons.
Marcus Rutherford: “I think having the chance to work with a character based on that source material, while also having the time to explore an arc that spans three seasons, is a real privilege in television right now… All those decisions and moments from back in 2019-20 are really paying off now.” The actor noted that as the character Perrin evolved in the series, he has also recognized growth in his own performance.
Marcus further adds “I feel assured in what he’s doing and in how I’m shaping the character. It’s almost like a reflection of each other through seasons one, two, and now three—reaching a point where he’s expressing himself more openly. People are looking to him, there’s leadership. Back in 2019 and 2020, that might have felt like a major challenge for me as an actor. But this journey—both for the character and myself—has mirrored each other in a fascinating way.”
His co-star Donal Finn, who portrays Mat Cauthon, a charismatic gambler with a complex destiny, shared a similar sentiment. He spoke about his transition into the series and how it paralleled his character’s own journey.
Donal Finn said “My experience joining in season two felt unique. By the end of that season, I felt truly integrated and connected with the rest of the cast. And then in season three, you see Mat—he’s gained confidence, and he’s… He seems to be thriving, acting almost as the connective glue within this group.”
“The Wheel of Time” recently returned for its third season on Prime Video and is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
