CAPSHAW – THE WHITE LOTUS
“Grey’s Anatomy” alum Jessica Capshaw recently shared that she auditioned for the role of Kate in the latest season of The White Lotus but ultimately lost the part to actress Leslie Bibb.
Capshaw, an enthusiastic fan of the acclaimed dark comedy series, said she plans to keep trying out for the HBO show, which is created by Mike White.
“I tried out for the role Leslie Bibb ended up getting, and I remember being at the audition thinking, ‘I’m just such a big fan of this show,’ so I was really thrilled,” Capshaw said during an appearance on the Call It What It Is podcast.
“I’ll continue to audition. That’s what I did for Grey’s. I adored Grey’s Anatomy, and I kept showing up to audition. It took three tries to get that role, so I’m hoping it’ll just take two for Mike White and The White Lotus. I’m not giving up,” she added.
In the third season of the popular anthology, Bibb portrays Kate, one of three childhood friends who reunite for a vacation at The White Lotus resort in Thailand. The other two characters, Laurie and Jaclyn, are played by Carrie Coon and Michelle Monaghan.
Capshaw had kind words for Bibb’s portrayal in the series.
“When I watched Leslie’s performance, I thought, ‘Oh my god.’ I was so invested, and she was absolutely incredible,” she said. “It’s always exciting to prepare for an audition and see where it leads, and then watch the final outcome.
“What’s truly fascinating and not entirely surprising about casting is that we’re all so different — we each bring a unique perspective,” Capshaw explained.
